Understanding Meridian interprocess communication

The Microsoft Distributed Component Object Model (DCOM) protocol is used for all communication between the Meridian LAN clients and the AutoManager EDM Server service. All communication between the various server services also uses DCOM, which relies on the Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) to run within a network environment. The Server Message Block (SMB) protocol is used for communication between Meridian clients and the AMFS service on the server. Web Access clients use the HyperText Transfer Protocol (HTTP), which runs on top of TCP/IP, to communicate with the Internet Information Services service.
